    Cool 5 Cool Fixx Riffs

What are 5 of your favorite Fixx musical moments?

    Heres some of mine....

    1. That spacey out of whack break in "Cant Finish", a very strategic musical moment and clever use of effects

    2. The outro solo on "Outside" of course

    3. The way the guitar solo builds and then falls back into the groove on "Ocean Blue"

    4. The simplicity of the main lick in "Facing The Wind", Jamies minimal harmonic approach really is his forte

    5. Ruperts synth in "Happy Landings", very uplifting!

Jamie's angry guitar scratch at 2:54 to 3:02 in the long version of Deeper & Deeper

The closing fade of I Will with the sustained synth note, the driving bass, Jamie's pretty picking and overlayed fading power chords. Most enjoyable on the Extended Version.

I'm gonna have to go with Octo on the breaks in Can't Finish

Rupert from 3:02 on in Built For the Future. Much more prominent in the 12" Rock Version on Greatest Hits at 2:04 and again at 4:04 on out.

Octo already mentioned Jamie's fade in Outside so I'll fling Jamie's outro solo in A Letter To Both Sides in there. I must also mention the accents from Rupert's synth.

Man, just 5? There are so many more killer moments...

    Nice idea for a thread!

Off the top of my head...

    1) Cy's wailing "Oh, oh, ooh, oh" and "Exposure's automatic" on Cameras in Paris

    2) Jamie's cool opening riff on the Woodland's version of Woman on a Train

    3) The sharp drum beats on Outside

    4) Rupert's key parts on Reach the Beach, making waves, as it were.

    5) The initial chords of Stand or Fall struck me from the first listen and now they always give me a happy feeling, reminding me of the beginning of something wonderful...

    Regards,
    Lisa

The gutar solo and synth on going without is my favourite musical moment ever best version is on elemental but of coarse it comes after"spin it" on happy landings.

opening of yesterday today and the bridge.

climax(can I use that word?) to red skies (shuttered version)

love the bit on running wher guitar picks up after first chorus.

when I play ocean blue through the computer on 3d mode there are loads of hidden textures I miss on my sterio so this is number 5.

    regards

I have to agree with some of the previous posts:

The guitar outro in Outside (don't forget Rupert's PPG)
Those (Prophet?) synth filter swells in Letters to Both Sides

    Let's see...

The synth and guitar work at the end of The Fool (I'm assuming that it's the PPG, but whatever it is it sounds absolutely incredible)

The pitch shifted (lowered an octave) snare drum in Camphor as well as the synth line right afterwards.

The vocal work in Phantom living...

damn, this could go on for almost as many songs as they've recorded...

Now see, my old tape Phantoms had got caught in the tape deck 9 years ago. Like a madwoman I fought my stereo shrieking "give it back!" So when I played it again, the end of Phantoms already sounded otherworldly, but it made it sound like it was actually MOVING around the room. . . I was never the same after that. . .

My second choice is the beginning riff of "Red Skies". Enough said.

Third- oh you know this one was gonna be in here- the intro to "One Thing Leads to Another".

Another I found just amazing is the part that goes "thinking about what we all are- one human race that's gone too far" with Jamie right there on "Facing the Wind".

The riff through "The Sign of Fire". . . ooh wee!

this is hard ask me to describe my favorite album cover artwork!

Ok I can describe art, no problem , but describing music in terms other than "I like that part" is difficult for me...but I'll give it a go.
    In no particular order:
    1) the boing boing noise on "Lose Face"
    2) the keyboards and bongo drums on "Happy Landings" make the song sound exotic and faraway
    3) guitar on "Outside"
    4) Cy's voice on every song (I know that's cheating)
    5) The beginings to "Stand or Fall" and "Red Skies" cause I get all excited (That's where it all started)

see, now that's funny- I always wondered what someone else would call that sound on "Lose Face"! Quit cheating! We all love Cy's voice! LOL

    1) The intro to "Are We Ourselves?" a very pleasing mix of instruments....

    2) The bassline on "Going Overboard"

    3) The total instrumental arrangement on "A Letter To Both Sides"

    4) The acoustic guitar on the "Secret Separation" on "1011"

    5) The entire intrumental and vocal package on "Driven Out" from "Real Time Stood Still"

    1. The crazy guitar slide at the very beginning of Opinions

    2. The build up on Opinion starting with "I want to drawn the line.

    3. The keyboards on Deeper & Deeper with the stacato guitar (man have I tried to get that)

    4. (Outlier) On Gypsy Feet there is a monment when Jamie bangs some great chords but it doesn't last long. Wish they would have done more with that.

    5. Keyboards with the cascading guitar on into to "Reach the Beach"

And of course everything else already posted.
