Picture cover

I was already a Fixx fan when I came accross the calm animals album but I swear I would have bought that album on the strength of the picture cover.Have any of you ever bought an lp/cd for that reason and if so did you like the music?

All the time!
I picked up Nirvana's Nevermind when it was released because of the cover.
duke by Genesis back in 1981
and more recently, unknowns as far as I am aware:
Sustainer by a band called Starling
Holy Dogs by Stir
Love In The Time Of Science by Bjork-sounding Emiliana Torrini
and then there's many more that I returned. But I love finding gems.

Sure have! That is how I discovered Queensryche. . . the cover to Operation:Mindcrime is just one you have to look at because in its simplicity is its complex design.

And I came across Type O Negative like that too. Ain't it funny? Two goth women giving each other a bloody kiss made me buy that cd. . . and I was not disappointed, because when I heard "blood and fire", it was all I could do to keep from melting on the couch!

I picked up Alice in Chains' Dirt for this reason- a person buried with their face showing! Pretty trippy, until you listen to Down in a Hole. . . Styx's Kilroy was here used to freak me out as kid, so when I got grown, I bought it and showed it to my son, explaining how it sent me cowering into the corner when I was about 7 or 8 when it came out so long ago. . . we laugh everytime I play it! How can you be spooked of a friggin' robot with a box of KFC?

Asia's album covers were like that. I bought their first one mostly for that reason.

Sarcastically PIL's: album, compact disc, or cassette...

go to google and do a images search on PIL album, and you'll see the variety that was making fun of the over glammed packaging, and led to the "generic packaging" that blossomed during the mid 80's

Funny, Jamie was the one who recommended this release to me after i m sure Malcolm made him listen to it during that tour in the mid 80s.


Steve Vai guest appears on this to do his mind blowin speed runs and major tremolo bends down into hell (low notes!)

I had recently broken away from my fundy Christian church and was making a personal statement when I bought it. It remains one of my favorite Rolling Stones albums to date.

Reminds me of Al Hansen's Hershey wrappers art piece.
The music turned out to be pretty cool, too!

LOL Precious... I used to be frightened of the album art on Queen's News Of the World. My brother had the album and I'd sit looking at it, fascinated and terrified at the same time. I'm sure listening to "Sheer Heart Attack" and "All Dead, All Dead" didn't help either...

I was drawn to this album cover more than its music. To me, it's not such a great ELP album. The subsequent Trilogy album is better even though its cover isn't nearly as interesting.

I saw the image before reading what you had to say. I had already associated the style with that of the Alien designer. Making your statement that much more believeable.

Unfortunately, many artists don't get credit for their album cover designs.

For example. Did you know that this one was designed by Phil Hartman (of SNL fame)?
