    Radio Paradise

I'm always searching for a good Web radio station. I came across radioparadise.com. It's good background music while surfing the Internet. What's interesting is that members can contribute reviews of what they have heard. Oh...and they sometimes play the Fixx.

Thought some of you Fixxtures might be interested.

I uploaded three songs from the Beautiful Friction album to Radio Paradise, and they accepted the title track, "Beautiful Friction" today. I'm excited. The next step is the evaluation by the listeners. They can vote or . If accepted, the song may be added to the playlist in the near future.

What were the other two Fixx songs I uploaded, you ask?

"Anyone Else" and "Just Before Dawn"

Radio Paradise played "Beautiful Friction" today at 3:59 P.M. PST.

Yup. I was wrong again. I thought it would be a long process getting the song up on RP.

Thank you, Wingo395, for your comments on the song's page, linked below:

"Beautiful Friction" got another play this morning. So far, the average listener rating is 7 out of 10. I'm hoping more songs from the album will get played, but I'm tempering my expectations knowing that Radio Paradise has a huge collection of music. They play an eclectic mix, most of which is very good.

    Other possibilities?

    That's great--good job!
I wonder if there are other stations we could try the same idea with . . . perhaps community/alternative types in addition to larger, commercial ones? I'll go ahead and contact the two local ones in my area--worth a try!

Thanks, Gretchen. Let us know how that goes.

RP is listener supported, making them more in touch with their listeners and their tastes. It's a small market, numbering about 90,000 members with about 10,000 of them listening any given time.

BTW, "BF" got another play today, but its rating fell to below 7 after getting a "Ho Hum" and a "Sucko-Barfo" rating, which is kind of understandable being the song has only 5 notes in its melody.

I also offered up "Happy Landings." IMO, it's the best Fixx song because it has a decent melody and song structure. The song even has a bridge section before the final chorus, which is unusual for the Fixx.

I forgot to mention, "BF" got another play today. That's four this week.

I'm glad they're getting some "radio" play.

    How can we help?

Could you post info on how people can vote/rate songs on Radio Paradise?

And how to encourage them to play other songs besides BF?

I'm thinking that having that info here and posting it on facebook would encourage others to join in . . .

You have to create a user name and password. It's free, easy, and unobtrusive, like joining this message board. On the website, you can link directly to the song being played, or do a search. It allows you to post a comment on the song and rate it on a scale from one to ten. The station operators read those comments and ratings, which gives them an idea how the song is doing.

If you particularly like a song that's not in the station's catalog, you can upload it within the Listener Review Panel which is accessed thru the LRC/Upload tab. There are strict guidelines you must follow, e.g., the number of songs allowed, bit rate, etc. Your song will be added or rejected, or hang in limbo for quite a while before being reviewed.

My other two songs from Beautiful Friction were rejected. That means only the title track, "Beautiful Friction" is being played. It has gotten five plays since September 1. "Happy Landings" is under review, which means it could get added.

So far, these are the Fixx songs that are in the Radio Paradise catalog.

Happy Landings - 5 plays so far
Less Cities - 1 play in the last 30 days
One Thing - no plays since 2009
Saved by Zero - no plays since 2008
Stand or Fall - 1 play in the last 30 days
    Happy Landings - maybe

Like I said, there are only 10,000 listeners worldwide, the majority living in the USA, Canada, UK, France, and Germany. I'm glad the Fixx is getting played, anyway.

Check out Radio Paradise. They have a delightful mix. In the past hour, I've heard Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, Midnight Oil, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, Allison Krauss and Union Station...
