Smile What Can We Do To Promote The Fixx?

    Hello All,

In reading the various posts, I see people with above average intelligence, great taste in music, and very creative. So, I am asking you, What Can We Do To Promote The Fixx?

We all know that this band has talent. They are certainly as good or better than much of the garbage on the radio. What are your thoughts. Do you think that we could all do our part to fill the seats at concerts?

I told everyone before the show that this is a world class band & that they'll probably never get a chance to see a band of this caliber so intimately. The looks on their faces after the show validated my claim.

I agree that they deserve more attention, maybe word of mouth isnt quite enough but would syndicated radio stations even play their newer stuff?

I've been sending e'mail's to the Music Scene editor of the Santa Barbara News Press in the hopes of having something said about The Fixx in this Friday's Scene section. He actually answered me and I forwarded him a press photo that I got from Management.

We'll see Friday if the editor actually uses what I sent him, but at least I'm trying.

The club that The Fixx is playing at Friday (June 4) called SOhO usually has an ad promoting upcoming bands in the Scene section. So there will be, at least, that ad.

Besides that, I'm bringing between 4 and 6 people with me to the show.

I'm telling all my music friends here in the bay area that they have to see the boys when they're back here. A friend in Boulder who's in the recording business wants to see them now. My sister in Indiana hopes they'll play there soon so she can go. Talk them up as much as you can, on boards, email and in person. Make a web page that promotes the band. Make sure to submit it to Google with meta tags such as "free pix naked hot blondes" so everyone will click through and see your page. (okay, only kidding about that last bit). Post flyers about gigs at work or school.

There's lots we can do, and the FIXX will do the rest by being an excellent live band.

The Fixx will get a lot of promotion from their venue in Tacoma, the Emerald Queen Casino. They advertise heavily on the radio and in the weekly entertainment section of the Seattle Times. I'm sure that the boys will get more exposure this time than from their previous visits to Seattle.

Many of the acts coming to the Emerald Queen have been in the business for a long time. So the people who show up thinking that this is just another trip down memory lane will be surprised when they hear new songs and see a new CD!

We have a casino up our way in Santa Ynez (Michael Jackson country). The Chumash Casino advertises heavily too. I spoke with Adam briefly after the last Santa Barbara show to encourage such venues. I'm not talking Las Vegas or Reno casinos, but the indian gaming casinos. These indian casinos advertise heavily to get people in the door where you would eventually gamble.

The Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, CA
Jackson Rancheria Hotel & Casino in Jackson, CA
The Palace Indian Gaming Casino in Lemoore, CA

These are three indian casinos in California that advertise heavily when a concert is nearing.

Be worth looking into for The Fixx.

Looks like my pesterings paid off.
I couldn't help but hear the paper land in my driveway at 04:45 this morning. Had to look. And happily, Gary Robb at the SBNP came through.

    Thanks Gary!

    Wink

That's great to see that your emails paid off. I know I've complained about the promotions, so I guess next time they're in Colorado, I'll do more to be a part of the solution. I've been known to make noise.

Here's an idea. Let your co-workers borrow your Fixx CD's at the office. If they like what they hear, then you can let them know when the boys will be coming to your area for a concert!

Smile It Works Listen To Mike

    Hello Mike,

It works! We have a cd player at work and I asked if they would play The Fixx. I now have about 5 or 6 people that can't wait for me to bring in my cd's. We have all gone to 2 or 3 of their shows.

I've loaded all my Fixx CDs into my iTunes player at work and turned on the sharing function for the other 400 employees there. There's usually at least one person attached to my iTunes folder at all times, streaming Fixx songs to their own desktop.

Oh, Bash, what a great idea! I also put many songs on my iTunes--I love the sharing part! Great promotion!
