    Promote the Fixx

As a club booker and manager I have always been perplexed by what draws
and the club and what does not. I am a huge 80's music fan and have booked
in the last year the Fixx, Bow Wow Wow, Berlin, Real Life, Gene Loves Jezebel,
and in three weeks General Public. These are classic bands who give so much
when they come to the club, and still I can't fill the room
I will tell you this, cover bands, raggae and hip hop pay the bills.
I have never made money with the great bands I have mentioned but
I will stick with these wonderful super groups as long as I have a club
    Vise
By the way friends check out my wifes web site for her cover band
8086 which pays tribute to the great 80's bands. www.8-0-8-6.com
Let me know what you think

Vise, a few of us are planning to be there for the General Public show, and look forward to hearing 8086 open for them! It's a Friday night, folks - right before Halloween, so if you're anywhere near Fairfax, CA - get there! Heck, since I may be coming straight from a company Halloween party, I may just show up in costume -anyone else gonna join me in that?

Thanks so much for booking the good stuff, Vise!

Wow...nice rendition of New Religion by Duran!

Can't wait for the show. I'll be seeing Dave W. tonight.

Yeah because these styles get promoted 24/7 on MTV. We are all subsidizing MTV even if we never watch it simply by subscribing to cable which I don't. MTV needs to be a choice we make on our cable menu then when we stop subsidizing MTV we will get less rap because it won't be getting promoted 24/7 by MTV which gets funded by cable subscribers who don't watch it. If you pay $60 a month on cable maybe $10 goes to MTV and $1 to Classic VH1. Until we can choose to have MTV or not, we will never stop getting rap and promoting it. On the radio station where I live that plays The Fixx I know darm well they will never mention that they will be in town or even say who sings the song "Secret Separation" which they play.

I had never thought of that, I need to call my cable company and see if I can change things around. I want to have GOOD music and get the word out that MTV sucks now!

Maybe we should all call our cable companies regularly to tell them how much we DON'T WANT OUR MTV anymore! Get a whole grass roots movement going?

    MTV MUST STARVE

They'll insist the "viewers" want it or that being able to choose our channels will "increase" the costs of cable. It's a lie.

But if we keep up the barrage and show them that the numbers of callers is REAL, then they have to acknowledge it. We could pass this idea on to other music sites too, I think it would help. Every little bit helps eventually.

I would be willing to pay for the extra cost, at least then I'd be getting my money's worth.

    QUALITY vs. QUANTITY
I am the winner in any event.
