the wishful thinker hard at work again-
Then like me, your favourite album would be Happy Landings 1997, if it had been released, other than the five-track EP (check out the Happy Landings and Lost Tracks Wikipedia page for full details).

    Cheers ...

I was listening to Want That Life yesterday and realized how high up on my list it really is. As a matter of fact, its been trying to nudge Phantoms out of the number one spot. However, with Lose Face, Cities, Woman, Suspense, & Facing, I think Phantoms is still safely lodged as my all time fave.

As I mature so does my musical tastes. Here is an updated faves list for me...

    Phantoms
    Want That Life
    Walkabout
    Reach The Beach
    Shuttered Room
    Calm Animals
    Elemental

Re: HL97: I suspect I would rank it rather high as well. However, since it didn't happen & I've never heard 4 of the SWT/Sadia mixed/produced tracks, I can't place it among albums that DO exist.

As for the Martin Rex production, that's a whole 'nother thread.

    Mine have changed also, Steve.

I would now put Walkabout at the top, replacing Shuttered Room.
I don't "go through channels." I dig my own....

Couldn't agree more. It has grown on me consistently over the last couple of years, especially since I got HL and better understood the progression of the band's sound.

Mine change often but right now it's:

    Happy Landings & Lost Tracks
    Shuttered Room
    Phantoms
    Want That Life
    Calm Animals

The one that always bothers me is Ink - two-thirds of the album is amongst the best material The FIXX has ever released imo but the other third really spoils it for me. Not that it really matters.

    G'day there, Steve.

Modern World: You can imagine a 'pumped-up' version of the original.
Lonely As A Lighthouse: Well, there's been quite a bit of debate over this considering those who have witnessed the various live renditions.
Ocean Blue: This will be the version on Elemental but with some minor re-recording/remixing perhaps.
Life's What's Killing Me: Hasn't an earlier live 'rock' version been discussed on here previously?

I doubt that Happy Landings 1997 will ever see a CD release, but you never know, I suppose. It is a shame though, because I still maintain that those versions of the tracks (by SWT/Sadia) would comprise one of the best albums the band has ever created.

    Cheers ...

I voted for Reach the Beach, but Phantoms is a very, VERY close second.

Walkabout on the strength of "Read Between the Lines" and "Camphor" -- beautifully atmospheric and haunting-- sonically and lyrically it brings on "A feeling like camphor rushing through my tubes, a cooling draught, a rare interlude..."

    Favorite Fixx album

Reach The Beach held the title of favorite from 1983 -2012 when they released their 2nd masterpiece Beautiful Friction. Now both have the distinction.

For me, it is definitely "Walkabout". I still play it all the time. "Treasure It", "Camphor" and "Secret Separation" are probably my favourite Fixx songs. Phantoms, Ink and Calm Animals are also fine. The only real weak album is Elemental. Happy Landings was the only decent track IMO.
