    Deleting Posts

Can we no longer delete posts? I wanted to delete a post and recreate it with an attachment. It wouldn't let me.

Was a decision made to no longer allow us to delete our posts?

edit note: I changed the word threads to posts.

You can only delete a post for a certain amount of time. After that a moderator has to do it for you.

    Be happy to help.
    Just let me know.

Steve's right, it's set to 24 hours. After that you need to contact a mod.

There was a time (on another forum I used to run that shall remain nameless) when an upset user came in and deleted every post they ever made. As I'm sure you can imagine, this made a mess of a lot of discussions/threads. Hence the timeout.

Anyway, I can bump the time limit if people thinks it makes sense.

    Thoughts?

I tried to delete my post after only a minute or two, and it wouldn't let me. It didn't used to be that way until recently.

    I get this message:

You do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

    1) You do not have permission to access the page that you were trying to. Are you trying to edit someone else's post or trying to access administrative features? Check that you are allowed to perform this action in the Forum Rules.

    2) If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Is this happening to anyone else? Test it and see.

Ah, well that sounds like a bug -- which forum/post?

Since I've been playing with new features these last couple weeks, I could easily have mucked something up.

It happened to me in the Outside forum. And again just now when I tested it on this forum.

I've had the same thing happen on a board of mine - people going on a delete spree. I think your 24 hour limit is a decent one.

Ahh... I think I know what happened. Has to do with user permissions (I switched from default to custom to allow for the calendar editing).

Can you try it again? I think it'll work now.

    Sorry about that!

Oh - as an aside, deleting threads isn't allowed ever because it not only removes the thread starters posts, but it also removes everyone elses posts.

Yup. Works for me now too.

Thank you, Jeff, for your immediate attention to our concerns.
