OK, Optimist. I finally got my Evanescence CD. I'm thoroughly impressed. About three songs into it my teenager (who turned me on to them to start with) was all "Dad, you bought that for me right? And my ten year old came upstairs and said "I need a copy of that Dad! I wanna play guitar just like that!".

So, it's a big hit in this household. I like that there is little or NO profanity. Love her voice. And the driving power of the guitar is very 311 (one of my all-time faves).

I don't relate this style to goth though. When I think of Goth I think of Sixspense type of music.

    Cheers
    Steve

    Sixpence as Goth?
    no no no...
The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Type O Negative...
that sultry, witchy, black magic dreamcasting!
Evanescence just sprinkle it lightly, but there's more industrial Goth in the mix than hip hop.

I had just crawled out of bed and was thinking Love and Rockets. No idea where Sixpence came from.

No harm, I'm used to making myself look like an idiot.

    Either way, Evanescence friggin' ROCKS!

I guess this should be OT

    cool
Did you mail me that money order yet?
Remember, you said you'd send it...

I just got my rsvp accepted to attend some sort of television taping for Evanescence on the 9th. I'll see them for the first time. I don't know how they did it, but their concert here in L.A. is at Universal Amphitheatre. That sucks! I wanted to see them in a tiny club, dammit. Blame it on double-platinum sales.

    Lightbulb Other bands we love?

[COLOR=darkblue][FONT=arial][SIZE=3]Okay, since we are talking music here, I can't help but noticing one of my favorite progression rock babies Yes. . . and then I also saw Sting, the Police, Duran Duran, and lots of my 80s groove lenders listed.
I would like to add the mentions of Queensryche (it takes a second to get into them, but if you listen to "Rage for Order" from 1986, you will become hooked). . .
I also like Eric Clapton (especially "Journeyman" with "Bad Love" on it- ooh that is tight!), Stevie Ray Vaughn, Kiss, Nine Inch Nails, Dope, Marilyn Manson, Type O Negative, some Danzig, Journey, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers (BloodSugarSexMagic and earlier), Arcadia, Paul Young, Hall & Oates, lots of R&B artists, especially seventies R&B, and Color Me Badd as well as Brian McKnight and Jon B. I have an extremely diverse taste in music, and I also adore Yanni. Folks say I am too young to get into him, but he is fabulous!

    Talking

I cannot help but agree with you on those!

How about (and I admit, this is a guilty pleasure) a few hair bands. . . Poison, Winger, 80s Alice Cooper (even though I dig the earlier stuff too), and a then little known group called Pantera. . . with a certain track called "Cemetary Gates". . . and my all time faves Motley Crue (with Vince Neil, not John Corabi). . .

Ooh, did I see Peter Murphy on someone's list??? Hey now! Peter Schilling as well!

OOMMGG- Type O Negative made someone's list!!!!!!!!!!! I am not the only person on Earth who digs them????????? AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm like re-reading what I wrote a few hours ago.
And it reads WAY different than ...

    Well, you know.

So I would have anticipated you to have favored other bands that weren't so darned white.

But that's not how my post reads now that I look at it again.
