    Post Your Poems Here

Starting a Poetry Thread, please post your best or latest poems. Would love to see your art in print!

Okay, since I started this...my first one (just whipped it up).

    Last Mission

    Lieing eyes, breathless nights,
    Firestorm below,
    Quiet skies, would delight,
    Someone take me home,

While you sleep, I still weep,
    Every day the same,
    Over there, do we care,
    Life just passes by,

    In my mind, headlights shine,
    Scaling up the wall,
Now on high, Death is nigh,
    Rain on my parade,

    Crying out, hear me shout,
    As I take the lead,
    Watch my back, we attack,
    I'm the first to go.

Now I just gotta dig out my stuff. . . I usually post mine in Sign of Fire, but it's been a while since my last.

    I'm up to the challenge!

    Argh!

    Isn't anyone human anymore?
Can anyone tell me what the bleep is goin' on?
How can it be that it has come to this-
A person sent to prison for a friendly kiss
    Unbelievable but incredibly true
The one who's crucified daily is you
And where is the end to all of this?
    The tunnel darkens- something's amiss
    Step back, take a breath
It may be the last you've left
Look at your world and see all the lies
Beware of the deception in the depths of their eyes
All they want is to pimp and rape
Serve up innocents on a silver plate
Stop it now before it starts
    Forest fires begin with sparks
    Revolution is way under-rated
Is it too late for me now? I think I'm jaded

    Growing

    Anchored in reality
    Roots are finding ground
    The leaves grasp eternally
    To find a world abbound

    Lured by whispers deep within
    Left from rays of hope
The arms reach up to try and win
The first food for the soul

A tiny flower sprouts of love
    To carry on its kind
    Rejoicing all and seeks above
    While seasoning the mind

    Seeds spill over pitted plain
    Old beauty fades away
    Arms recoil from the change
    Sleep quiet till spring day

    A life lived to completion
    With sun and rainy times
    To struggle from submission
To live the life we find
I never give them hell; I just tell the truth and they think it is hell.

I do prose. But today I wrote my first haiku, inspired by an all points bulletin email at work. The email reminded us that some of our food was "more fragrant" than others, and could we consider not packing things like seafood, broccoli or spicy foods for lunch. And no burnt popcorn. I had to stop my work, write a haiku, and make a blog post as a reaction. We all laughed and emailed all afternoon over this one.

Anyway, my virgin foray into verse:

    Fights against cancer
    Healthy, stinky broccoli
    Is now banned at work

I'll leave the deep, beautiful, thought-provoking work to the rest of you. Carry on!

Her's a short untitled one for you. It was inspired by a woman I saw who smacked her son for hitting his sister.

    The world decieves
    So children lie
    The world is cruel
    So children cry

    We teach them all
    A subtle ruse
    And condemn them all
    To our abuse

    A child sobbed
    Upon my breast
    Because he tried
    And failed the test
I never give them hell; I just tell the truth and they think it is hell.

I wanted to write a poem a long time ago, about giving birth, but all I could come up with was this one line; everything else eluded words:

    So much to live for
    So suddenly!

    (Okay, maybe that's two lines...)
...It's what you WILL find...you WILL find...

Here's a couple just for fun!

There once was a playboy named Chuck,
Who remembered each girl who had sucked.
    When asked, "What's your trick
    For pleasing your dick?"
He replied, "I suppose it's just luck."

Then I decided to do something really strange.....

A volcano that slept in Bisod,
Was revered by the natives as God.
When they threw in a maiden,
    He said, "You're mistaken,
    That's really a man, not a broad."

I never give them hell; I just tell the truth and they think it is hell.

    The Poet's Pardon

Would there be an I to scold
Upon this earth as days are cold
Below the skies who know it not
Above the seas where I will rot
I should think this hate too old.

Men have come and gone to death
Without the peace blew from their breath
Withheld from love that could not save
Within their dark and barren cave
They had no joy to bequeath.

Once a life has spent it's course
There is no time that you could force
Here unto a grief of sorrow
    Where another chance could borrow
What was lost in the first source.

    death of a dictator

the day was like no other
what was it really we gained
on december 30th Saddam Hussein they hanged
but what did we really kill?
did we truly slay the beast?
"not quite," is my answer, to say the least
intolerance is something that will never die
if the rest of the world does not seem to want to try
    capital punishment is only temporary
until the next offender out his plan carries
so, what now? do we hang them all?
we can only tell as time will crawl
such a pretty noose went around his neck
stained with the blood of innocents
    until we cash the check
it could have been a setup
all I can do is wonder
who will pay the price next time the world falls asunder
is it me? is it you?
please, Lord, give me a clue
show me the way to not hurt and use my hands to help
the true way to change the world is to begin with myself

    frozen condensation

    light as a feather
but can make you stiff as a board
    accumulates quickly
    fluffy, white
    too much in my driveway

This isn't mine, but I thought it'd be a beautiful thing to post

    Daddy's Poem

Her hair was up in a pony tail,

her favorite dress tied with a bow.

Today was Daddy's Day at school,

and she couldn't wait to go.

But her mommy tried to tell her,

that she probably should stay home.

Why the kids might not understand,

if she went to school alone.

But she was not afraid; she knew just what to say. What to tell her classmates of why he wasn't there today.

    But still her mother worried,

for her to face this day alone.

And that was why once again,

she tried to keep her daughter home.

But the little girl went to school

    eager to tell them all.

    About a dad she never sees;

    a dad who never calls.

There were daddies along the wall in back, for everyone to meet.

    Children squirming impatiently,

    anxious in their seats

One by one the teacher called a student from the class. To introduce their daddy, as seconds slowly passed.

At last the teacher called her name,

    every child turned to stare.

    Each of them was searching,

for a man who wasn't there.

    "Where's her daddy at?"

she heard a boy call out.

    "She probably doesn't have one,"

    another student dared to shout.

And from somewhere near the back,

    she heard a daddy say,

    "Looks like another deadbeat dad,

too busy to waste his day."

The words did not offend her,

as she smiled up at her Mom.

And looked back at her teacher,

who told her to go on.

And with hands behind her back,

    slowly she began to speak.

And out from the mouth of a child,

    came words incredibly unique.

    "My Daddy couldn't be here,

because he lives so far away.

But I know he wishes he could be,

since this is such a special day.

And though you cannot meet him,

    I wanted you to know.

    All about my daddy,

and how much he loves me so.

He loved to tell me stories

he taught me to ride my bike.

He surprised me with pink roses,

and taught me to fly a kite.

We used to share fudge sundaes,

and ice cream in a cone.

And though you cannot see him.

    I'm not standing here alone.

"Cause my daddy's always with me,

    even though we are apart

I know because he told me,

he'll forever be in my heart"

With that, her little hand reached up,

    and lay across her chest.

    Feeling her own heartbeat,

    beneath her favorite dress.

And from somewhere here in the crowd of dads, her mother stood in tears.

    Proudly watching her daughter,

who was wise beyond her years.

For she stood up for the love

of a man not in her life.

Doing what was best for her,

    doing what was right.

And when she dropped her hand back down, staring straight into the crowd.

She finished with a voice so soft,

but its message clear and loud.

"I love my daddy very much,

    he's my shining star.

And if he could, he'd be here,

    but heaven's just too far

You see he was a firefighter

and died just this past year

    When airplanes hit the towers

    and taught Americans to fear.

But sometimes when I close my eyes,

it's like he never went away."

And then she closed her eyes,

and she saw him there that day.

    And to her mothers amazement,

    she witnessed with surprise

A room full of daddies and children,

all starting to close their eyes.

Who knows what they saw before them,

who knows what they felt inside.

    Perhaps for merely a second,

they saw him at her side.

"I know you're with me Daddy,"

to the silence she called out.

And what happened next made believers,

of those once filled with doubt.

Not one in that room could explain it,

for each of their eyes had been closed.

But there on the desk beside her,

was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose.

And a child was blessed, if only for a moment,

by the love of her shining star.

And given the gift of believing,

that heaven is never too far.

They say it takes a minute to find a special

person, an hour to appreciate them,

a day to love them, but then an entire

    life to forget them.

    Here's a poem I wrote when I was a kid...about letting the water out of a bathtub:

There's a monster in my drainpipe
    He doesn't like the wet
And every time I pull the plug
    He throws an awful fit

    He gurgles and he splutters
And he bangs against the drain
    But once the water disappears
    He's quiet once again
...It's what you WILL find...you WILL find...
