Oh Pipps, Miss you too dear friend !! Please tell me you'll meet me at Costa Mesa County Fair and we can carpool to/from San Francisco! What a ride!!!

I know you can handle it...hopefully with Dennis too. We can bring Bash and get her a "contact" thing But she sure ain't driving!! OMG!

The tour.... San Diego, then SF, THEN Costa Mesa? lots of wasted miles...may not be able to do San Diego, wahhhh!!! I wish the 2 dates in southern Ca. were back to back... oh well, see you soon anyway.

Hey, if you are in Santa Cruz tonight, come see me introduce The English Beat!! at The Catalyst at 9:00 p.m.

    Talk soon, Much Love,

Doc, I may be immune - all the times I've been in close quarters while folks have been enjoying your special herbs, and I haven't ever gotten a "contact thing."
As for driving - I'm safe, smooth and FAST on the road. I believe in getting those wasted miles out of the way.

No San Diego OR Costa Mesa for me... see you at the Mezzanine.

Posting this because some people I care for smoke pot, and some of them read this board:

    Pot link to Psychosis

It's info from a new study - just something to consider. I'm sure more research will be done in this area...

Thanks, but is this really news? I often feel like I can pick out the 'pot-heads' at reunions and things like that. When you remember how they were years ago, and you see their personalities change, yet you remember that they were always the ones getting stoned, you can see the differences over time. It's pretty sad.

It's also kind of like being able to pick out the people who were never jocks, years later those people just look different and, that's the group I fall into.....so I'm not passing judgement on anyone, just saying that everything we do on a regular basis affects who we become.
I am the winner in any event.

I don't usually play "Spot the Stoner" when I go back home.

The 4-6 people I know who smoke it and are connected to this board will hopefully understand the spirit in which the news story was posted.

    Good Point

    Great Point Pippi !!

I too am "guilty" of smoking pot... but I was also the student council class president as a senior, and president of my freshman, sophomore, and junior classes. My grades were all A's and B's. But I just may be psychotic after all, and I surely look my age..... at my class reunions, most of us smoked out in a social, fun setting.

Reading that study, it says there's a chance that the risk rate goes from .01% to .014% out of a HUNDRED! You are more likely to be hit by lightning than become psychotic from pot.

I say we should start discussing ALCOHOL abuse and the damages done by that, as it is much more likely to create psychosis, child and spouse abuse, impaired driving, and so many other evils that POT doesn't. Why are we so down on POT, the most harmless of all "drugs" and abuses? Did anyone ever get a prescription for ALCOHOL from a doctor?

I'm like "SO SURE " !!! I'm actually getting tired of trying to defend the most harmless of all "evils". Bottom line is that it's not for everyone, but then, it doesn't try to be.

    Much Love,

    Roger

I have been watching this topic with interest and, not surprisingly, am impressed with the candor and care with which Fixxtures have participated in the discussion.

I don't think that alcohol and pot should be a big deal (although I should mention that I have never tried the latter). Obviously there are scores of people who occasionally use, but do not abuse them.

From my perspective, excessive or addictive behavior can have very negative consequences for people and those around them - whether it's the person who only feels better about themselves when they are maxing out their credit cards to acquire useless crap or the one who can't go a single day without a drink. Sadly, folks who are bored or unhappy or physically pre-disposed seem to fall into self-destructive patterns and don't know they've gone too far.

From my perspective, alcohol and pot become a problem when people don't realize that they've become wrapped up in substances, that they are regularly reliant on them for a perceived sense of well-being or normalcy or social acceptance. Unfortunately, it is the nature of addiction that people don't see their lives changing or notice the affect on people around them. I, personally, prefer to know that my feelings and perceptions of the world are as authentic as possible, without chemical influence. I just roll that way. ;-)

It is understandable that many people have negative feelings about alcohol and pot. We see folks who have deteriorated into heavy drug use which was likely precipitated by seemingly benign actions and we get scared. We care about each other. We're afraid of seeing someone else hurt. We're afraid we, ourselves, might be disappointed by someone we care about. I know when I've been in the company of folks who were more medicated than myself, having fun, I have felt sad that afterwards, it might mean more to me than them, simply because I would be the one who remembered it more vividly. I guess that sounds weird. Anyway, that's me rambling on... Best to you all.

We roll in a similar fashion on this one, Musegirl.

I think it's interesting and even telling to see the responses we get in this thread. I'm certainly not here telling anyone to stop or that they are wrong. But oh well...

In addition to the things you mentioned, one thing I have noticed and really don't like about pot is the temporary and even superficial social structures it can create. It's kinda like money - when you have it and share it, everyone loves you. When it runs out, that may change a bit (or a lot!). Makes me glad I have neither. The whole world may not be kissing my arse, but I can be a bit more certain that the people who choose to be in touch are doing so because they like me.

At some point in my life, I stopped getting carded, and young women started calling me "sir". Alas...

As for pot. I tried it. Didn't like it. It amplifies thoughts in my head, and I can't suppress them. I hate the lack of mental control, and I can't trust what I'm thinking when I'm high. And if you're a worrier, like me, it can be very unpleasant, especially if the worry turns into paranoia.

Especially glad that you have such an understanding and supportive spouse, too.

    Keep looking up.....
just passed last Friday, im now a certified CCNA network maniac, things moved kinda fast, i started putting out resumes before i passed the test, (ya i kinda jumped the gun), and i got a call for an interview the day before the exam, i had to go straight from the exam to the interview, the woman hired me on the spot because they needed someone quickly, its only a temp position until December, a local liberal arts college has installed a campus-wide wireless network and anticipate some kinks until they get coverage tweaked, its good experience though and may even turn into something permanent, either way its a step forward

ok, i have one last thing to say in this thread.....

    1. for me, this certification, and position, would not have happened if i was still smoking pot, that is a fact

    2. my wife gets much of the credit, it cant be easy dealing with a spouse whos more into studying than talking, there were a few times she walked in here while i was on the verge of grasping a concept with a story about something such as her sisters new furniture, broke my concentration, and i was sort of 'non-receptive', weve temporarily banned books and studying in this house until further notice, which must be approved by the queen of the castle, tonight the queens going to red lobster with the king, and then to the casino, and then to the royal suite for some royal treament

    ........

in defense of the Dr.s position here, i just wanna say that i dont believe pot is 'shit' for everyone, some people can maintain that crucial balance and he seems to be one of them, what i meant by 'shit' is a situation where you let something, such as pot, control your life. It started out fun as a teen, but addiction in my 40's, after daily usage in the meantime, certainly was not fun at all, im glad ive left it behind

as far as pot making you crazy, i have no reference because i was unhinged long before i started smoking pot!
In germany some people say it's like medicine. It's good against heartattack. If it is a lie - who cares?
