the nuerologist put me on nuerontin which is for arthritis and spasms in my left hand hopefully it will help with the pain? i really don't like to take pills like this with all the side effects they have but i will try it and see if it helps at all? the spine doctor put in for authorization for injections in my back 3 of them this is the last resort before surgery which i will not have anyways! these injections are put into the disc and are suppose to be healthy for you they are the syn-disc set of injections that basically put a gel in to rejuvenate the disc and hopefully heal and help the pain for some people it works for others it does not? right now i am still not sure i want to go thru with it but it will be a while before it is authorized by comp. anyways so i will look into it more before i go thru with it still looking for a part time job but i am getting no calls alot of places are closing here and or laying off people so it is gonna be tough? dee

dee ...ive been reading your post ...my thoughts and prayers to you. i understand your difficulties. i fell through a ceiling way back in 89 @ work, injuring my lower lumbar L4-L5. hopefully your injections will do you well . i remember having cortizone injections which eventually caused me to get avasculor necrosis in my left hip. it had to be replaced, hopefully your not receiving cortizone. (just curious) im sure your not...ive had lots of b-12 injections too, it helps the spine with degenertive disease. they have come along way in treatment and more advanced surgeries, which im sure your doctor has shared that with you. i missed out on replacement disc. i cant have anymore sugeries. hopefully you can keep from surgeries. ive had 5 back surgeries. but my fusion had eventually failed. i now have spinal cord stimulator, (couldnt live without it) , it has just been my best pain reliever. ive been through years of neuontron too , my doctor switched me to Lyrica its kinda new , you might have seen it on tv. it works much better for me . so you might want to keep that in mind. i just wanted to share this with you , if i can be of any help or support , id be more than willing . hope all goes well for you.

hi gregory thank-you so much for the support!!! wow you do know what is going on with all that you have gone thru too!!! and no these are not cortisone shots or b-12 they are the sym-disc shots supposedly they are suppose to be rejuvenating as they inject a gel into the disc itself? my chiropractor does not want me to get them he told me he had a client that had them and the first one he had done he thought he was paralyzed!!! it was temporary but it lasted 2 weeks i think that was different injections though i have to talk to him more about it today when i see him! and i feel bad for all that you have gone thru too all those surgeries did not help you? that is why i don't want any i have heard too many cases where people have had the fusion surgeries even rods put in their back and are still bad if not worse?? very scary stuff i have not even started taking the nuerontin yet? scared of the side effects but i will have to start as the pain in my bak and leg is worse at night when i am trying to sleep was it the same for you? i wish you well with your back problems also and thank-you for your help take care!!! dee

Dee ... the spinal cord stimulator is made by medtronics...it was my last surgery...its actually inside my body. the component itself was placed inside my right buttick at the hip. that is where they found the best fatty area to make a pocket for it to fit into. some folks can have it placed elsewhere. its bout the size of a small wallet . cant wait to get the newer versions, they are the size of a quarter with 32 different stimulations. much more comfortable, ive been told. that will happen when my battery dies. anyway... then the wires are placed under the skin and guided up into the center of my spine.they attach probes to the spine from the wires. i have a remote control switch that is placed over the stimulator to turn it on & off .with a couple of different stimulations and you can turn it up or down for strength in stimulations... my legs hurt terribly for years (still do) but the electric stimulation instantly takes the pain away...but can be quite paralizing so walking is difficult , but i mostly use mine at night when i lay down. there have been many nights i left it on all night , but its rewarding the next day for relief. it really helps me when i have to drive too. (yet im not really suppose to use it for that) the battery has lasted since march 3 2003 , that is when i had the surgery. so you can see the battery life is quite long. mine still works vey well. the newer versions , they are saying the batteries can last up to 15 years and like i said quite smaller for comfortability. between my left hip and the spinal cord stimulator the xray makes me look like the bionic man. folks freak out when they see it. lol. my kids call me the 100,000 dollar man, the cost of all the surgeries. i think the stimulator surgery was bout 30 grand. workers comp picked up that tab. they refused to pay for my left hip replacement , cause they said we couldnt prove the cortizone was the cause , alcohol can cause avasculor necrosis too. (i had my share) i think limping over years just wore my hip out. documented though as avasculor necrosis... i use a Lidoderm patch .05% over the stimulator to make the area numb, that helps lots. it has days where it bothers me.... they do what they call a trial stimulator in the begining to see if it helps the patient before jumping into the surgery ...trials are usaully a week. it was truly a miracle for me . you can go to www.medtronics.com for more info. or google medtronics. hope you have great day ... p.s. ice and lower lumbars dont go well together , thats for sure. stay safe . gregory

Between you and the injuries and me finding bad things in the one here, it sounds like a great idea. I fear taking the trash out now!

hi greggory wow you have gone thru so much with your back and legs i really feel for you!!! i am glad you are so strong and positive though? i don't know that i would be going thru all you have? i give you alot of credit and i thank-you for all your helpful information! i was talking to my chiropractor yesterday about the shots and all and he told me cortisone shots are the worse ones too i have had my share of them already in my foot for arthritis and in my left wrist for the pain and my left knee they help for a while probably 2-3 months with me then the pain was back again so i am done with them. but i am gonna try the sym-disc ones for my back as they are healthier and if they help the pain it is worth it!! you take care and thanks again for all your advice and help!! carrie i hear you loud and clear about the dumpster thing i know you will never forget that i won't either too sad and i still have dreams about falling as i hit my head and back so hard i thought i cracked it wide open scary stuff !! dee

well i am still waiting for authorization for the injections for my back if i don't hear anything by next friday i have to call the back doctor back so they can get after the comp. insurance co. i did go see my wrist surgeon yesterday and it wasn't pretty as soon as he walked in the office and looked at me and said it isn't any better is it? i said no and just broke down!! i was so embarrased!! but i have been dealing with this left wrist and hand pain for years now and it got worse since the fall and the last surgery i can';t handle it anymore!! he then proceeded to tell me the only thing he could do to alleviate the pain would be a complete fusion of the left wrist i said what would that do? he said well i would fuse your wrist together but you would not be able to move your wrist anymore it would be not bend? i said okay so what good would that do as i don't use the left hand now? he said well it would take the pain away somewhat and you wouldn't have to wear the brace the rest of your life! i then said i don't think so because it would be worse not being to bend it at least . so he told me to think about it and come back in 6 weeks. i then went to my chiropractor and spoke with him about it he told me i should get a second opinion and that he was gonna call a wrist specialist and talk to him about me and see if he will at least talk to me? what a mess but i will go speak with him and see if he can help me in any way besides the fusion surgery! it just sounds too scary to me and at this point why offer to do this now after i had 4 surgeries already? i will keep you posted as to what happens now ? dee
