    Cool Edmonton Show

Edmonton show June 13. I was a little worried at first that the band might not enjoy the seemingly sparse, and as far as I could tell, potentially indifferent casino type crowd, save for a few evident fans gathering closer to the stage.

The competent but rather pedestrian rock chick cover band made me wonder about what the sound was going to be like. I had not been to this venue yet.

Anyway, forget all my lame pre-show ponderings. The main act hit that stage and I knew we were in for a treat. The sound was awesome from the get-go (the performers obviously have a lot to do with this, as does the band’s touring sound engineer.) JWO’s guitar sounds and skills were larger than life, the rhythm section was super-solid, Rupert’s work at the keyboard rig was massively intelligent and precise, and Cy’s voice and presentation were immensely satisfying throughout. The energy built and built. True performers who instinctively know how to focus on the energy exchange. Big vibe.

    Cy’s banter cracked me up.

Cy: “When were we here last?” Response: “uh, never.” Cy: “Oh, that explains it. I though it might have been a senior moment!”

Cy: “Eat right, shit right, sleep right!... That’s all you need to know!”

Cy: “Shit wine… this is shit wine… there’s good wine, but this isn’t it!” (I’ve been drinking shit red wine ever since Saturday night, and REALLY enjoying it now.)

So glad, after 29 years, that I got to see this band, and that they evidently haven’t dropped a beat in the meantime. Hope to see them again soon.

Sounds like there were a lot of funny moments at those shows; wish I could have been there! Ooo, and Regina got Life Goes On, and a very interesting set list order reshuffle!

FINALLY (after three tries) got my partial Fool video up today...check it (and a few from last year's GVR show) out here! Really wish it could have been the whole thing, but at least I got Jamie's solo, and it cuts off at the least awkward point that it could have.
Maybe on course to the best yet!

Want to see The Fixx in Japan.

C'mon you guys what's wrong with you.

Japan loves music, The Fixx are well known here and Japanese fans pay more for their tickets than anywhere else.

How about some dates in Japan.

    Yoroshiku!

I had prepared a CD full of MP3's for the road trip, including the Mohegan Sun set list (or was it Fairfax?) so we'd have an idea of what we'd be hearing. I didn't include Life Goes On in the set, so it caught me off guard (along with the shuffle!), but of course I loved every second!

Loved the video... I was too scared to try to record (didn't want to lose my camera)!

Carrie, that was fantastic and great to meet you all in Connecticut at Mohegan Sun. Thanks for helping me reconstruct - I was teetotaling. Thanks for the list of songs also. Please tell the tailor joke some time!

Sherrie - thanks for calling me from my perch up in the Dubliner bar. I came down and called you and your entourage waved & I found ya.

Carrie, this was my favorite photo of yours:

The show was electric. Surprised to see Cy had grown his hair out instead of showing up with a shaved head like last year. Can't think of one highlight song, but it was great to see that impromptu request for Reach the Beach honored.

If you heard the guy hooting and hollering all night for - I don't know, a Shuttered Room request [I Live], and then yelling when we stood in line for autographs when Cy came out, that was me.

I noticed some guy with a pastel blazer and pink undershirt a la Miami Vice with the sleeves rolled up, wondered who that was?

I stood in line with some good folks, some tall guy called me "Radar O' Riley," a term of endearment? Everyone likes Radar. Hmm, like it.

I think I asked someone to hold my spot in line for autographs while I ducked out for another beer and that person told me "Not to worry. Everyone has to tell the band their life story, that's what's taking so long."

I got a beautiful program which the WHOLE band signed, it's already framed and will treasure it. Thank you to the band for being so cool.

Oh yeah, I got to tell Cy my life story in under 30 sec. (I promise) about my favorite albums (Shuttered Room, Elemental, Want that Life), how I had seen him last year. Mainly to express my appreciation of how meaningful it was to see them again a year later, hopefully closing a circle to rough times I'm dealing with... He said, "I hope you get your promotion." Maybe a typical or even cliched story ending, but I will never forget it.

Thanks all on the pics/video! I wish I had centered that photo on the guys a little better, but I had to go with it once I had it. Ed apparently likes that pic, too, and cropped it a lot better in the Gallery on the tour page.

This was my first time seeing Cy with much hair to speak of; two years ago, it was short (but very becoming on him), and last year, of course, it was non-existent! I think he looked very youthful with this year's style. I can understand his frustration of washing and styling it on tour/the farm though; if I had to live his life, I'd probably want to cut mine all off (I actually love having my hair short, but in the long run, it's higher maintenance, so I just let it grow and don't do anything with it (gives me the hippie chick look)!

My Dan told me Miami Vice Guy dropped something incriminating on the floor and put it back in his pocket, but I'm too embarrassed to say what it was

The joke went something like (Cy, help me out here): A man goes to a tailor to have a suit made, and when it's done, complains that the arms/legs are too short. The tailor says, "Hey, I just make the suit, not the man". But it was way funnier when Cy told it.

If you get your promotion, Cagey, will you be changing your screen name?
Maybe on course to the best yet!
