What album by The Fixx did you first purchase?

So it hit me - I had not seen a post covering this topic yet.
Many of us heard The Fixx early, maybe even liked the songs tremendously, but what album was the first one for you to purchase to own? Not "single" either, but full album.

    For me, it was "Phantoms."

It's not that I didn't like "Shuttered Room" or "Reach the Beach," but at the time I didn't have extra money to buy rock albums, at least not until 1984. It was a hard choice at the time, as I could only buy one tape, and Phantoms was the newest, so I decided to get that newest one first since I had only heard one song on the radio and MTV to that point, "Are We Ourselves."

I wore that tape out over the next several years, and eventually bought an LP and later the CD.

So what was your first album purchase of The Fixx?

I belonged to a record club and bought Reach the Beach on vinyl. I liked what I heard, thinking the band had an interesting sound and great vocals. Other LP's followed, Phantoms, then Walkabout. It wasn't until years later that I learned Shuttered Room existed.

Being late to rediscover the band, it was the Ultimate Collection for me. I was looking for albums from bands I'd enjoyed when I was younger, and that one had all the studio versions of their songs I loved, plus a lot of songs I hadn't heard, for a fantastic price. No other band's compilation albums had that degree of tracks included (at that price). I figured if I really liked what I heard, I'd have to get the rest of their albums. I did. I still take that album everywhere with me, though. The guys have all signed it inside, but it's beat, the cover's broken, the album's getting scratched and'll probably be unplayable soon, but it changed my life and I won't let it go!

    Record and cassette

I think my first was "Shuttered Room" on vinyl . My sister had "Reach the Beach" on cassette. I noticed she was more into listening to Mozart at that time, so I took it upon myself to make good use of her cassette and to this day I still have it! She was a little shocked when she seen my Fixx collection and recalled that it was hers. Thankfully she no longer owns a cassette player so she can't reclaim her property! Thankfully I have a cassette player so I am still enjoying my tape !

Hm, you were pretty specific about “purchase”. But I’ll tell the whole story anyway. My 1st album was a cassette of Shuttered Room that a friend had stolen from Warehouse Records. It was “quiet” collateral after I had vehemently opposed his stealing. That was 1984 but prior to Phantoms release. I had seen The Fixx open for AFOS following the RTB release and knew they were really good. That was 1983. I didn’t actually buy an album until well after Phantoms came out. I had heard it at a friend’s house and just had to have it after that. I knew what I liked from Shuttered Room, I knew they were amazing in concert, and I heard what I had heard on the radio. If I recall, I Picked up Phantoms and RTB shortly after the visit to my friends house, both on the same trip to the record store.

Shuttered Room for me too; that's why 'Red Skies' is THE Fixx song for me, rather than anything from Reach The Beach.
I'm still kicking myself for passing on tickets to see the band at the Victoria Theatre(?) in London, around '81/ '82

    Walkabout

    Walkabout

I was 14- my second cassette. (Now, autographed- yay!)

Yes/90125 was first. Next, the earlier Fixx albums and all things U2. My cassettes were 'real' compared to my sister's record club collection with generic/skimpy cassette jackets. (I know...my early signs of neurosis).

I don't know what I just said or why.

My first Fixx album, well actually it was a cassette that my mom had and she gave it to me. It was the Phantoms cassette, I listened to it over and over and I think that I eventually wore it out and had to upgrade to cd form, haha!

The other Fixx's album is called Shuddering Tunes (never paid attention)? What a blatant name rip-off! OMG!

    Thumbs up Shuttered Room

On vinyl...shortly after seeing the new"Stand or Fall" video on MTV.

Had to have that album, asap. I was 19. Hooked on The Fixx, from then on.

First saw them play live during their Walkabout tour --was 23, very anorexic and trying to make my hair blonde, back then. LOL!

You pass like the moon in silence

OKAY.... I am trying real hard NOT to laugh at this...for reasons I am not even going to go into....

But 1002 was around when the discussion of this FAKE "Fixx" group emerged a few years back... I believe they are a Barber shop quartet...

But I do not recall the name of their album being "Shuddering Tunes"

So I am sure that is 1002 graphic artist sense of humor and a parody on "Shuttered Room"

... because I am sure it would make us all shudder to hear......

So I will give this a " good one" and a LOL!!
