Hamm - The Fixx back in Germany

After 19 years the Fixx celebrated kind of Comeback in Germany at the Hammer Summer Festival. It was a festival with five Bands. Headliner was Sunrise Avenue and the Fixx played right before them.

Audience was very young, most of them between 17 and 25 years. I asked a security man and he told me something about 7000 people have been counted.

    Setlist:

Red Skies (unusual opener but maybe some fans might have remembered)
    Shut it out
    Driven out
    Less Cities
    Yesterday today
    How much is enough
    Are we ourselves
    One thing leads to another
Fool (Brilliant Guitar work from Jamie)
    Camphor
Deeper (Jamie's Guitar solo was amazing!)
    Srand or fall
    Woman on a train
    Fatal Shore
    Saved by Zero
    -----------------------
    Encore:

Take a risk (brandnew song from the new CD Beautiful Friction)

Ok, talking about the release of the new cd: I just had some few words with the bandmembers. There are still a few things to clear on the american deal so we still have to be a little bit patiente. But i guess playing the first new title should be a good sign. Fingers crossed. Germany record company promoter from Hypertension (Label released Solar Minimum in Europe) was in Hamm too. This man loves The Fixx and really would love to release the new cd.

I am wishing you all a great summer and those who are able to see the boys the following weeks in the usa: Make it a party.

    Love, Heimo

I was lucky to see The Fixx for the first time. I know them since the 80s. A massive crowd in Hamm but in my opinion not the right audience for the band. Reactions were not really enthusiastic. I would have liked to hear a different setlist, more new songs, especially in the context of playing with younger bands. Great musicians but they are in danger of getting stuck in the past.
This was a moment to be frozen in time.

It was a different audience and a frightened younger audience then playing in a bundle with Berlin, Human League or B52's. That's without doubt true. It felt like a teenager party or sitting on a kids table. But i think it was good for the Fixx to play for such a kind unknown festival-audience and they did it in a very cool and charming way. I have no idea how the bandmembers thought about the atmosphere after the show. But i was standing in the fifth or sixth row right in front of Jamie and was surrounded by young people. They treated them in a fairly and kindly way and of course they had not heard of them before. Cy said "Danke schön" after nearly every song and the young people always answered: "You are welcome!". So even it was not their audience at all i am lucky that they got a chance to play in front of such a big crowd. But , yes, response was not that enthusiastic. But that was not to expect. The real Fixx-Fans were hard to find. I spotted a few which drove 600 kilomtres from Munich in Bavaria by car.. Fans came from Hamburg too.

They have not been away - they just took a longer break ;-)
